Ray Valek Named to State's Cervical Cancer Elimination Task Force, December 2004

Ray Valek has been appointed to the State of Illinois' Cervical Cancer Elimination Task Force by the Illinois Department of Public Health.

Valek will bring social marketing expertise gained through his involvement with the Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program to the 12-person voluntary task force, which was formed through Public Act 93-0956 signed by Governor Rod Blagojevich. The task force will study the prevalence of cervical cancer in Illinois, raise public awareness about the causes, identify strategies and technologies effective in preventing the disease, and review related public policies.

Valek's expertise contributed to enrollment increases for the Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program and a $1 million award from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for additional services to serve the increased enrollment.
